Steps before Amidah

I was wondering, I feel like I remember reading somewhere that before the amida during hashem sefatai tiftach upi yagi tehilatecha. Hashem sefatai tiftach is said AS you take the three steps back, and upi yagid tehilatecha is said as you take the 3 steps froward. is this an accepted custom? if so where is it brought down, and what do you personally recommend I do?

Answer:

It is best to take the steps before beginning this pasuk.

Best wishes.

Sources:

See Shut Be’er Moshe (Vol. 8, no. 50), who writes that one should not take the three steps back and forwards while saying the first pasuk, because it is a part of the prayer.

There are, however, different customs in this matter.
