Changing the Mazal

Is there any way to change one’s mazel? I have been afflicted with illness, loss of income, sick children, lack of success and much pain and stress. I had our mezuzzahs checked and they are fine.

The Gemara writes (citing one opinion, which is the mainstream opinion for later commentators and authorities) that “There is no Mazal for Yisrael.”

Rashi explains that although a person might be born to a certain Mazal (fortune/fate), it is within his capacity to change his Mazal by means of prayer and virtuous deeds.

Therefore, the main thing is not the Mezozus but rather yourself. Of course you should do all you can to ensure your good health and to seek out a good a well-paid job.

But at the same time, focus on prayer, on seeing the Divine hand guiding you as part of His great scheme for the world, and trying to make the best of the situation you are in terms of your Avodas Hashem.
