Interrupting for Kaddish

If one davens at a slower pace than the Tzibur:

1. and one is still in ashrei or L’manatzayach when the chazan is reciting Kadosh and Baruch Kevod in Uva LeTzion – should one answer with the Tzibur.

2. If one hears Kadish during Aleinu should one answer all the Amens. Would it be preferable to start saying Aleinu with the Tzibur even though one will have to interrupt it – or would it be better to answer to all the remaining Kaddish and then proceed to complete one’s own Tefila from Aleinu on without having to interrupt.

Answer:

1. Yes, one should pause and answer with the tzibbur, including saying the parts in Aramaic between the pesukim. After the final part, one should continue Ashrei from where one left off.

2. It is fine to say all the ameinim. If you find that this disturbs your intent in saying Aleinu, it would be better to pause for the duration of the Kaddish. However, one should still start Aleinu with the tzibbur.

Best wishes.
